A new chapter in research has begun at Metropolitan University. On Sunday, August 3, at 2:00 PM, the Metropolitan University Research Society (MURS) officially launched with a grand ceremony at the university's central auditorium. It is the newest addition among the university's 28 clubs, with the primary goal of creating a research focused platform for students.
The event's chief guest, University Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Taher Billal Khalifa, officially inaugurated the club by cutting a cake.
Vice President GM. Sifat Iqbal delivered the welcome speech, outlining the club's necessity, background, and future plans. The club's advisor and Associate Professor of Business Administration, Titu Rahman, then explained the club's direction and importance.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from various faculties, the club's advisory board including Sher-e Alam, Syed Nakib Sadi, Amzad Hossen, and Md. Sadman Sakib, along with teachers from different departments, executive members, and students who love research.
Among the faculty speakers were Acting Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Anik Biswas, Dean of the School of Business and Economics Professor Dr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin, Dean of the School of Law and Proctor Professor Sheikh Ashrafur Rahman, and Director of IQAC Professor Chowdhury Mokammel Waheed. They emphasized the necessity of undergraduate level research in Bangladesh and highlighted MURS's potential and importance, encouraging students to actively engage in research.
In a special segment, Club President and Associate Professor of Business Administration Md. Saidur Rahaman Polash presented a detailed overview of the club's objectives, structure, and future plans. He noted that just as the Center for Teaching, Research and Publications (CTRP) encourages faculty research, MURS will spark the same interest among students, and he expressed hope that both platforms will collaborate in the future. Then, General Secretary Shahriar Alam Mehedi Tapadar, who presented the club's mission, vision, and activity roadmap.
A quiz competition was organized for students, and attractive prizes were awarded to the winners. The event was energetically hosted by English Department students Urmii Akter and Prapti Sinha. In the closing remarks, Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa wished the club a bright future.
Near the end of the program, University Founder and Chairman Emeritus Dr. Taufiq Rahman Chowdhury arrived, delighting everyone. Emphasizing the importance of research, he assured his support for the club's activities.
Finally, on behalf of the club, special thanks and gratitude were expressed to University Founder and Chairman Emeritus Dr. Taufiq Rahman Chowdhury and Board of Trustees Chairman Tanvir MO Rahman Chowdhury. Their direct cooperation and support made the club's debut possible.
