The Metropolitan University Research Society (MURS), a well-known research organization at Metropolitan University, organized a special workshop titled 'Masterclass on Fundamentals of Research' today, Saturday, at the university's Gallery-1 (GL-1). The primary objectives of the event were to inspire students toward research, clarify foundational research concepts, and encourage participation in international-standard research.

The workshop officially commenced at 11:00 AM on Saturday. Dr. Munshi Naser Ibne Afzal, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), graced the event as the keynote speaker. He began his address by praising the dedication of MURS organizers and the students' enthusiasm for research. He highlighted the importance of cross-domain research, career development through research, and future planning. "To excel in research, students must develop a mindset to work across fields beyond their own disciplines," he remarked.

Dr. Afzal explained the stages of research, paper-writing techniques, and various data collection and analysis methods using real-world examples. He provided hands-on experience to the students, demonstrating how modern research tools like NotebookLM and Brics.ai can make research simpler and more effective. Furthermore, he offered valuable advice on overcoming practical research challenges, generating new research concepts, and preparing oneself for international-level research. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A round where Dr. Afzal answered students' queries in detail.

Md. Saidur Rahman Palash, President of MURS and Associate Professor at Metropolitan University, was also present. He emphasized the benefits of regular research engagement, future career opportunities in academia, and the importance of fostering a research-centric environment on campus.

Organized in cooperation with Futurenation and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the workshop saw enthusiastic participation from around two hundred students across various departments. Executive members of MURS welcomed the keynote speaker with a floral reception.

Although unable to attend in person, Metropolitan University’s Emeritus Chairman, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, and the current Chairman, Dr. Tanveer M. O. Rahman Chowdhury, extended their heartfelt greetings and motivational messages from afar. Their continuous support for enhancing university research, student progress, and global research integration added immense prestige to the event, sparking renewed enthusiasm and a positive outlook among the participants.

The organizers announced that every participating student would receive a certificate, which will be distributed shortly. Organizers and stakeholders hope that such initiatives by MURS will further solidify a research-oriented mindset among students and continue to cultivate a research-friendly environment on campus.
