'Research 360°', a comprehensive 5-day research workshop organized by the Metropolitan University Research Society (MURS), has successfully concluded at Metropolitan University (MU), a leading private institution in Bangladesh.
The main objective of this workshop was to enhance the research skills of students and young researchers by providing a holistic blueprint for academic inquiry. Covering every stage of research from fundamental concepts to final publication, the program equipped participants with a structured, step-by-step understanding of topic selection, problem identification, methodology, data collection and analysis, literature review, paper writing, and the submission process.
Day 1: Md. Saidur Rahman, Associate Professor (Dept. of Business Administration) & President of MURS, led the opening session on foundational research concepts, research types, and effective topic selection, instilling confidence in participants for their initial steps.
Day 2: Abu Yousuf Musa, Lecturer (Dept. of English), provided crucial guidance on defining research problems, identifying research gaps, and formulating precise research questions and hypotheses.
Day 3: Ahmed Afif Rafsan, Lecturer (Dept. of Electrical & Electronic Engineering - EEE), conducted an in-depth training session on literature review, drafting titles and abstracts, and writing introduction sections.
Day 4 (Parallel Sessions): The fourth day focused on methodology and data collection through a dual-track approach. Md. Amjad Hossain, Assistant Professor (Dept. of Economics), trained participants on non-tech/qualitative and quantitative research methods, surveys, and experiments. Concurrently, Md. Sadman Sakib, Senior Lecturer (Dept. of EEE), focused on tech-based research, covering Python-based data collection, preprocessing, exploratory analysis, machine learning models, and data visualization.
Day 5: The concluding day was facilitated by MURS President Md. Saidur Rahman, focusing on data analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, Python, NVivo), plagiarism detection, referencing management via Zotero, and formatting guidelines (APA and IEEE styles).
Upon completion of the training, certificates were distributed to all successful participants. In a statement, MURS noted, "This workshop was a comprehensive initiative designed to stimulate creative thinking and build solid research confidence among students." University faculty added that the quality training received here will ensure the active and successful participation of these students on both national and international academic platforms.
This milestone was achieved under the visionary leadership, inspiration, and consistent support of the University’s Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury, alongside the dedicated guidance of MURS President Md. Saidur Rahman and university research supervisors.
